<< THE PASSAGE OF BILL 725 IN EARLY SEPTEMBER BY STATE LEGISLATORS OPENS THE DOORS FOR SCHOOL EMPLOYEES TO PROVIDE LEFTOVER OR DONATED FOOD TO HUNGRY STUDENTS.nn(Kim Carter/Child Nutrition Director, SAISD): "I think the intent of the legislation was to take care of kids and I think the school district's intent is to also take care of kids."nnWITH THIS BILL'S PASSAGE--A SCHOOL DISTRICT OR OPEN-ENROLLMENT CHARTER SCHOOL MAY ALLOW A CAMPUS TO DONATE FOOD TO A NON-PROFIT THROUGH A PERSON WHO IS DIRECTLY AFFILIATED WITH ITS SCHOOL'S CAMPUS.nnTHE DONATED FOOD CAN THEN BE RECEIVED, STORED AND DISTRIBUTED ON CAMPUS.nnTHE BILL ALSO ALLOWS CAMPUSES TO ADOPT A POLICY IN WHICH THE LOCATION PROVIDES FOOD AT NO COST TO A STUDENT IF THE STUDENT IS UNABLE TO PURCHASE FOOD ON CAMPUS.nn(Kim Carter/Child Nutrition Director, SAISD): "They wanted to make sure there was a grace period for those students whos
