the number of americans using food stamps is at an all time high. that’s increasing the demand for local food pantries to stretch supplies.abc 27′s patty santos is live in the studio with more on how rural south georgia communities are managing the demand. according to the u.s. department of agriculture— one is seven americans use food stamps. last may there was an increase of more than a million people who applied for federal assitance. but rural south geogia food pantries don’t need these numbers to confirm–what they are seeing on a daily basis. they say more people are reaching out to churches and community groups to receive free food. second harvest of south georgia–has distributed more than 7 million pounds of food to 30–counties this year so far. last year the food pantry gave away more than $23 million dollars worth of food. but local corporations are also taking notice of th
