Drinking wine could lead to more jobs.nnA new study shows allowing people to buy wine in grocery stores will create over 6,000 jobs. nnThe study done by the New Yorkers for Economic Growth and Open Markets found that the proposal would raise hundreds of millions of dollars through franchise fees and raise $71.1 million annually through sales taxes.nnThe Food Industry Alliance, which represents grocery stores across the state, says all the jobs the new proposal would bring will help sales of local produce and beer.nn”Our members have worked hard to build ‘Buy Local’ programs,” said Jim Rogers, President of the Food Industry Alliance in a written statement. “If we are allowed to sell wine as well as beer, we will proudly stock New York wines.”nnThe change could also help lower the price of wine.
