The president is set to sign it into law.
the president is set to sign into law “the food safety modernization act” — which will give the food and drug administration more oversight and control over what we eat. under the law — the f-d-a will inspect high risk plants at least once every three years. larger farms and food makers must submit detailed safety plans and identify where contamination could occur. and — imported food must meet the same safety standards. what this legislation will do is change the system so we are preventing that kind of contamination before it gets into the grocery shelves and before people start getting sick the f-d-a will also now have mandatory recall authority over tainted food. until now — the government could only suggest companies voluntarily recall their products. in cbs 21’s consumer alert–
