Prepping to cook with spices
tropics are kind of quiet. >> i’ll keep my fingers crossed. thanks, steve. and welcome back, we are in the kitchen with mary martini. we have a quick tip that we’ll use later on when mary has her full segment. we are working with spices and that’s always a secret to the best chef, anyone can put anything together, but it’s when you add in the spices, it changes things. >> i’m going to change some things by toasting spices, to even bring out more different flavors. >> okay. that scares me, different spices. >> what we have is a niece, and i have a pan, it’s just a dry pan, there’s no oil in it or anything, on the heat, we’re going to add some of the seeds and we’re going to toast these lightly. okay. >> so nothing is in the pan. >> nothing in the pan. just going to take a few minutes on and off the heat. once they start to crackle, you’ll know that they’re toasted. >> what does the toasti
