We’re cooking Mayor Flanagan’s Kale Soup with Mayor Will Flanagan of Fall River. Mayor Flanagan is teaming up with the Blount Soup Company to raise money for scholarships by making kale soup based off his grandmother’s recipe.
>> this morning in the rhode show kitchen we are cooking with the comblier of fall river will flanagan. you are making a great portuguese soup dish. this is a family recipe? >> it is. my grandmother immigrated to this country and brought many portuguese recipes kale soup is one of them. >> take us through the ingredients. >> it’s a simple recipe. of course we use kale a spicy sirece we have red beans, salt, peppers, onion, garlic, beef stock. it is a real hardy soup. it’s good all around. >> maybe even dinner and lunch the next day, too. >> i know it holds well. heat it back up. the beans have already been soaked. we rinse those off and the potatoes have been boiled and shocked. >> we use a red kidney bean, too. that’s a good ingredient also. >> why kale soup. why did you pick this one? >> it’s a family recipe. it is good. it’s hardy and it’s somethi– hearty and something we partner and
