Best Bites: Turning a craving into a business
or know someone who has– you probably know that chile is hard to find. in this week’s best bites… we meet a woman who’s craving of new mexican food, turned into a business spanning the internet and the country. you might not know the name — apple canyon gourmet — but you might know their food. “we make everything from soup to salsa to cocktail mixes” anna shawver got the idea to launch apple canyon after living out of state. “i moved to washington state in 1985 and was shocked to find, theres no chile here or sopapillas and tortillas were rarely found.” SO.. SHE started canning her own salsas. fast forward to today… and her products are sold at whole foods, sunflower market, gift shops, and over the internet. soup mixes include tortilla, green chile, and black bean. some are as simple as adding water and a can of chicken. nats it doesn’t take a gourmet but it’ll make people think
