Around Town 10-23

It hasn’t had the effects in North Dakota many other cities across the country have experienced. But the struggling economy is slowly making its way through the state. {Open} In this weeks edition of Around Town, Brad Feldman takes you to one business feeling the pinch. Dakota Maid Bakery has been serving sweet treats in Bismarck-Mandan since 1992. First in Bismarck and then for the last three years on the east end of Memorial Highway in Mandan. Delores Urban has decided next Wednesday will be the bakery’s last day. She says business has been slowing down for the past year. She says most people come in to get their holiday goodies. But the day to day traffic is not supporting the business. Urban will be selling all of the equipment once the shop closes. {Transition} The Pinehurst Square Shopping Center is getting a new business. Northern Light Physical Therapy will be going into this space between Shoe Carnival and Claires. Charity Iverson Harstad is the owner of the new physical therapy clinic. She will have free injury screenings, orthopeedic, balance and vertigo training. She also has the equipment to give you video feedback while you run on a treadmill. This will help you answer why you experience pain when you walk or run. Insurance will be accepted. The clinic will open on November fifth. {Transition} It’s going to be a crazy pizza week in North Bismarck. The new North Little Caesars location will be opening next week…just in time for Halloween. The owner, Randy Rahone, says they hope to be open for business Tuesday. You will be able to get the meal deal for only nine dollars. Prizes will be given out all week…including free pizza and crazy bread for one year. The North Little Caesars is located in the strip mall just to the north of Space Aliens. Rahone says he is also planning on opening a Mandan location next summer. {Transition} She’s back. Erica Lancaster has reopened K-9 Cuts. The dog and cat grooming business is located at 1351 South 12th Street in Bismarck. This is a full service pet grooming facility…including hair cuts, bath, ear cleaning and toe nail clipping. Lancaster will be open for business Tuesday through Saturday. She has felexible hours but prefers appointments. You can do so by calling 220-4633. Walk-ins will be accepted if there is an appointment available. Taking you around town, I’m Brad Feldman.
